“Anyone can play guitar…” - and participate online

Why doesn’t everyone have a blog or site already?

I think, for me, the main reason it took me so long to get a web-site up and running was really just the lack of understanding of how easy it is to accomplish. It always seemed to be so involved, and ‘ability’ driven, putting it firmly out of reach - until I was able to stump up payment for a ‘web-guy’ to do it for me - which I never really did in the end…

And the truth? - Absolute nonsense!!! The truth is, I now know, that there are just so many ways to get ourselves ‘online’, with the minimum of fuss. We can buy & sell, relate socially & network, even publishing our rambling thoughts for the consumption of the masses - and , to a limited degree, we can do all of these things at little or no cost!

Buying and Selling…

If we want to sell something online, we can go to eBay - and we can use the UK site, or the original US site, with practically every English speaking market represented by a ‘local’ eBay site. [NB. I’ll go on to discuss other online trading platforms in additional posts.]

Social Networking…

If we want to interact with friends online, or meet new people, we can go to the social networking sites to hook up with others; Friends Reunited was one of the earliest to have wide exposure, with MySpace, FaceBook and maybe Bebo being the big three of late.

Blogging…

If we want a platform to tell the world what we think, or what frustrates us, or literally anything we like… we can begin to post to a Blog, or an online diary, like ‘Ann Frank’, or even Adrian Mole! [‘Blog’ being short for Web Log, or just plain old ‘diary’.]

Blogger.com is owned by Google, making your very own blog instantly accessible - a good choice for the first time blogger.

Wordpress.com provides access to the awesome Wordpress blogging platform. This option is far more adaptable and extensive than Blogger.com, though getting the very best of the Wordpress platform involves hosting your own blog at your own address - as opposed to using the ‘microwave meal’ version at Wordpress.com. [I'll post a video of how to sign up to the more extensive option in the next couple of days.]

The last, and possibly the most indepth option, is the TypePad blogging platform. Well worth a look at the 14 day free trial.

What’s Your Excuse?…

So, it’s not that we need to have a degree in computer programing to have a presence online, or even to actively and positively participate in the online community. We can find many simple solutions already in place for ‘newbies’ with no experience.

So what’s your excuse? - Stay tuned to find out how to get established online, or comment below with your request for specific info.
